EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a transformative evidence based therapy first developed in 1989. EMDR has been helpful for individuals worldwide seeking to rapidly process traumatic experiences, phobic thoughts, anxiety and depressive symptoms from all around the world. In 2013 the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized EMDR as an alternative to dealing with PTSD symptoms.

In our EMDR sessions, we work collaboratively toward healing and growth. EMDR treatment includes identifying goals, taking a history, enhancing the client’s resources, processing, and lastly, installing adaptive thought processes. During the processing phase, clients are guided by the therapist in bilateral stimulation, which could include tapping or watching the therapist’s hand move side to side or tapping this helps process the uncomfortable thought or memory. EMDR is effective in-person and through telehealth.
